A short note on pitching us.
- Read three issues first. The fastest way to know whether you're a fit is to spend an hour with the back catalogue. Our register is unhurried, first-person where it earns it, and almost never news-pegged.
- One pitch per email, 150–250 words. A working title, the angle in one sentence, two or three reporting notes, and one line on why you. Include two links to relevant published work.
- Expect quiet. We commission a small handful of essays each quarter. If we'd like to work with you, you'll hear within three weeks. If you don't hear back, the piece isn't for us this season — please pitch again.
